July 25, 2022 – Florence L. Denmark & Harold Takooshian: The Remarkable Origins of the APA International Division 52

Moderator: Diane Halpern/What are the unusual origins of the APA International Division 52 in 1997? In this 70-minute webinar, two co-founders and past-Presidents offer an illustrated review of Division 52—its pre-history, origins, and early development, followed by open discussion with participants.

July 7, 2022 – Rolando Diaz-Loving: Inserting Culture into Psychology

Moderator: Antonio Puente/Dr. Rolando Diaz-Loving will address and offer solutions to the lack of cultural and ecosystemic sensitivity in mainstream psychology that together with an attempt to indiscriminately generalize findings across behavioral settings has led to disregard empirical findings that integrate behavioral and cultural models. Inserting culture into psychology would allow the consideration of both universal and idiosyncratic human attributes and social behaviors.

June 21, 2022 – Lori Foster: Psychology’s Role in Sustainable Development around the World

Moderator: Merry Bullock / The talk provided an overview of sustainable development as operationalized by the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Dr. Foster highlighted ways in which psychology can and does contribute to the realization of these goals around the world.

June 8, 2022 – Janel Gauthier: The Process of Moral Disengagement. What Have We Learned and What Does It Mean for The Maintenance of Moral Standards in Societies? 

Moderator: Neal Rubin / Dr. Gauthier reviews findings about moral self-sanctions, moral standards, and moral evasion, and discusses mechanisms for maintaining moral standards in societies.

April, 2022 – Danny Wedding: Confessions of a Peripatetic Psychologist
Moderator: Nancy Sidun / Dr. Wedding discusses his life as an international psychologist, highlighting Fulbright experiences, overseeing graduate training programs in Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Mexico City and teaching in Caribbean medical schools. He also suggests ways to embrace international opportunities whenever they arise.

May 24, 2022 – Brigitte Khoury: What do Refugees Need and What Can We Do As Psychologists?  Moderator: Larry Gerstein / Dr. Khoury discusses  the journey of refugees from their home country to the host country and the various needs they have, as well as the role psychologists can play to fulfill these needs.
