Prof Theophilus Lazarus completed an 18-month Post-doctoral Fellowship in Clinical and Forensic Neuropsychology in USA and a six-month Fellowship in Neurosurgery, at the former Wentworth Hospital, University of Natal Medical School. He is a Fellow of the National Academy of Neuropsychology (USA) and a member of the Academy of Neurology (USA). Over 40 years. he taught undergraduate and graduate neuropsychology, and courses in neuropsychology to physiotherapy, occupational therapy and optometry students, and to Neurosurgery Registrars. He supervised over 50 masters theses and doctoral dissertations, training close to 350 students in Clinical Neuropsychology, some of whom are now working in USA, Canada, UK, Kenya, Australia, and New Zealand, India, and Malaysia, apart from South Africa. Prof Lazarus practises as a Clinical and Forensic Neuropsychologist in Durban, South Africa, and a Counselling Psychologist providing support for communities with psychological patients. He is Adjunct Professor at Emory University, Atlanta, USA where he undertakes research, teaching and student supervision. He also works in ‘Optimizing Human Development’, a multicultural private practice in Atlanta, USA, enhancing recovery and potential after traumatic experiences and brain injury. His recent publications are in Cognitive Neuroscience of Neuroinfectious Diseases, Brain Injury and the Child Justice Act 71 of SA, and Neurocognitive Disorders.
