Judith Gibbons is Professor Emerita of Psychology at Saint Louis University. She served as president of the Sociedad Interamericana de Psicología (SIP) from 2013 to 2015 and president of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research from 2002 to 2003. She is the founding editor of the Division 52 journal International Perspectives in Psychology (IPP), and since ending her term as editor has served as co-editor of two special issues of IPP – on women’s experiences during COVID and reproductive justice. She is also a former associate editor of the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology, co-founder of the Women’s Studies Program at Saint Louis University, and former Fulbright scholar at the Universidad del Valle de Guatemala. She has published widely on adolescent development in the majority world, international adoption, and empowerment of women and girls. In 2023, she was honored with the American Psychological Association Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology, and has an article forthcoming in the American Psychologist, “Enriching developmental science from the Global South: Contributions from Latin America.” She is a fellow of Divisions 52, 2, 7, 9, and 35 of APA as well as the Association for Psychological Science and the Midwestern Psychological Association. Her additional service to Division 52 includes serving as program chair for convention, reviewing papers annually, and reviewing award candidates. She lives in Antigua, Guatemala where she works with a bilingual laboratory school and a non-for-profit organization that aims to empower adolescent girls.
