Meaning-Making, Creativity and Religious Coping in International Settings

Session Description: This symposium will explore approaches of meaning-making, creativity, and religious coping used by graduate students in various international settings in response to COVID-19, as well as humanitarian aid workers in Lebanon to manage stress and trauma, build psychological resilience and community.

Adapting Tests for International Settings
Session Hosts: Antonio Puente, Martha Zlokovich, Kurt Geisinger
Session Description: Issues related to the translation and adaptation of tests from one language and culture to another, along with the strengths and weaknesses of doing so will be discussed. Weschler scales and the MMPI as well as neuropsychological tests from English to Spanish will be presented from practical as well as political perspectives. Psi Chi Executive Director will also discuss Psi Chi’s crowd-sourced data collection research project – Network for International Collaborative Exchange (NICE), which has worked through various obstacles to adapt the research measures for data collection in different countries.

International Women’s Committee: Envisioning a Gender-Just World and Other Global Priorities to Transform Psychological Practice with Women

Session Description: Amidst the pandemic, violence against women worldwide has intensified, like a “shadow pandemic.” Faced with this new femicide and the older, obdurate, ongoing injustices in women’s struggles for a better life for themselves and their families, it vital to be able to identify, educate, prepare for, and engage with the challenges women will face in the next decade. The International Women’s Committee advocates for centering women’s voices in understanding the adverse and far-reaching effects of structures on their lives, work, families, and rights across the globe. In this talk, Shaifali Sandhya, PhD. will discuss ten future-focused priority areas for women around the globe along with the requisite, concomitant skills of local and international mental health professionals. The session is designed as a discussion-based session and participation is welcomed and encouraged!
