
Deborah Best is the William L. Poteat Professor of Psychology, Emerita and Research Professor at Wake Forest University, USA. She received her PhD in developmental psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Distinguished Alumni Award, 2023). At Wake Forest, she served as the Psychology Department Chair and as the first woman Dean of the College, and she received awards for excellence in teaching, research, and community service. She is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association and the Psychonomic Society. She received the APA Division 52 Denmark/Reuder Award (2017) for her gender-related research. She is Honorary Fellow and Past President of the International Association for Cross-Cultural Psychology, and Past President of the Society for Cross-Cultural Research. She served as Associate Editor of the Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology for 16 years, as Editor-in-Chief (2012- 2023) and is now Special Issues Editor. She has written and co-edited 8 books and over 100 journal articles and chapters, examining children’s gender, cognitive, and social development in the United States and other countries. When she served as Vice President of Communication for APA Division 52 (2020-2022), she was instrumental in negotiating the publication contract for International Perspectives in Psychology: Research, Practice, Consultation with Hogrefe Publications. She would be honored to serve as President of Division 52, working to enhance a global perspective for psychological science and practice, reaching out to students, early career psychologists, and international scholars.
