Scarlett (Seong-In) Choi, PhD (she/her/hers) is an Associate Professor and Director of the Clinical Psychology PsyD Program at the University of Denver. Born in South Korea, she earned both her B.A. in French Education and M.A. in Counseling at Seoul National University. She came to the United States in 2002 as a Visiting Scholar at the University of Missouri-Columbia and earned Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at Ball State University in 2008.
Dr. Choi’s research interests include psychological help-seeking attitudes, scale development and validation, multicultural and cross-cultural issues in psychology, emotion and stress, and clinical supervision and training. In her leadership role as Program Director, she is also dedicated to professional development of the early career professionals, especially among the international students and the immigrant populations.
As a licensed Psychologist, Dr. Choi practiced psychology at the Refugee and Immigrant Center in Utah for 5 years. She provided refugee and immigrant clients with psychological services, and provided the clinical service team with consultations.
Active in Division 52, Dr. Choi has been serving as the Chair of the Henry David International Mentoring Award Committee for over 3 years and as the Division 52 Program co-chair for the 2022 APA Convention. She is also an active member of Division 17 and the National Council of Schools of Professional Psychology (NCSPP). In 2020, she was elected as the President-Elect of the APA Council of Counseling Psychology Training Programs (CCPTP).
