Professional title for a Practicing Psychologist: At present: Counselor, Clinical psychologist, and Counseling Psychologist. There will be more titles approved as explained in the following part.
Criteria, Regulations and Procedures to obtain a License:
- The licensing regulation in Jordan states that the qualified applicant for licensing either to have a Master degree or Ph.D in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or Mental Health This is a regulation from 2000. An amendment to it in 2019 included all applied psychological specialties, i.e behavioral therapy, cognitive therapy, child therapy, assessment psychology, etc. Another amendment added BS degree in psychology as intern. Reciprocity of Licenses: No. it does not. The practitioner has to pass a licensing exam consisting of two parts, written and oral, a kind of appraisal interview.
Temporary/Short-Term Licenses (which are often needed for psychologists doing humanitarian work in foreign countries): NGO’s started recently requiring psychological services providers to have a license but the government is not strict about this concerning specialists working in humanitarian support. But this is worth considering in the very short future. We have many NGOs that cater to Iraqi and Syrian refugees.
