The Division 52 Board appointed a task force to propose updated bylaws for the Division. The task force (Past President Antonio Puente, President-Elect Martha Zlokovich, and Council Representative Merry Bullock) recommended editorial changes (addition of a Table of Contents, regularization of terms, etc); changes to procedure to reflect current practice; and, on direction of the Board, recommended the following structural changes:
- Change of the name of the Division to “Society for Global Psychology, Division 52 of the American Psychological Association” [note this change requires additional agreement from APA, which will be requested after the bylaws vote].
- Change the Student and Early Career Psychologist Board Member models from a “Trio” system [ 1 year elect, 1 year in position, 1 year past] to single Board positions with a fixed term [2-year term for Student Board member and 3-year term for ECP Board member].
- Extend voting privileges to Division 52 Professional Affiliates.
- Where appropriate, replace “international” with “global.”
- Change the frequency of Board meetings from 2x a year to quarterly.
- Chair of the Awards committee is appointed rather than an ex officio duty of the past president.
- Added liaison positions.
- Sunset the Strategic Planning Committee as a standing committee (will be appointed as an ad hoc committee when needed).
The Division Board unanimously approved the revised bylaws, and recommended sending these revised bylaws to the members for a vote.
NOW IT IS YOUR CHANCE TO VOTE!!
