Membership Categories

There are 3 membership categories:

  • Member (and Fellow and Life Status)
  • Affiliate
  • Student Affiliate

Member

1. Full Members are full or associate members of the APA with an interest in international psychology.

2. Rights and privileges include:

  • Attend and to participate in the meetings of the Division
  • Receive Division publications
  • Hold elected office
  • Eligible to serve as Chair or Members of Committees of the Division
  • Participate in Division listservs and other communication channels
  • Submit nominations for Division elections
  • Voting member

Fellows are APA members and Division Members who have been nominated by the Division and elected by the APA Council of Representatives for Fellow status.
Fellows of the Division shall be entitled to the same rights and privileges as Full Members.

Life Status Members are defined as APA Life Status members who are also Division members.
Life Status members are entitled to the same rights and privileges as Full Members as noted in the APA Association Rules for division membership status of APA Life Status members. Life Status members receive the journal only upon payment of a journal subscription fee.

Professional Affiliates

  1. Professional Affiliates include individuals who are International Affiliates of the APA, or who are psychologists from outside the USA or Canada, who are members of their national psychology association and/or are registered or certified as psychologists in their country of work or activity; or psychologists in the USA who are not APA members; or non-psychologists who share a commitment to the Mission, Vision and Values of the Division and are engaged in professional activities in areas allied with psychology.
  2. Rights and privileges include those of Members except that Professional Affiliates may not hold elected office as a Division Board member.

Student Affiliates

  1. Student Affiliate members must be be enrolled as a student in a program or school of recognized standing in the area of psychology.
  2. Student Affiliates have the same rights and privileges as Full Members with the exception that they receive the electronic copy of the journal, and they are eligible for election only to the position of Student Representative to the Board.

Special Offers

From time to time the membership committee develops special offers for new members.

  • in 2019 the division inaugurated a special offer for APA International Affiliates for 12year free membership in Division 52. (see SPECIAL OFFER for APA International Affiliate Members
  • in 2022 the division instituted a 50% dues reduction for Members and Affiliates living in low and middle income countries (per the World Bank).
